Introducing idBUS
identicentric's idBUS is an SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) middleware product that provides a high-level interface to an organization's identity management infrastructure. idBUS provides radically simplified Web Service bindings that allow applications to quickly and securely manage and access identity / entitlement data without the high cost and complexity typically involved with identity management integration.
idBUS does not eliminate or replace existing identity management investments. Instead, it compliments existing products and technologies as a loosely coupled service layer between applications and the underlying identity infrastructure.
Through this model idBUS eliminates the need to perform application level integration using compiled shared libraries, complex APIs, or proprietary protocols. The net result is a significant reduction in the cost and complexity of identity integration. This, in turn, drives highly accelerated enablement of applications and customized third party solutions.
Features
idBUS was designed from the ground up to meet the needs of enterprise customers. A few key idBUS features include:
- Full SOAP enabled stack - every binding is described purely through XML schema and WSDL
- Ease of integration - the simple interface, shorter learning curve, and early binding interfaces facilitate rapid deployment and integration with most platforms
- 100% Java / .NET interoperability - full support for proxy generation through existing SOAP API tools. No hand-crafted XML is required for integration on most platforms.
- Service Contract - Provides versioned, extensible XML schema that creates a robust contract between clients and the service.
- Fully modular system - Custom plug-ins that adhere to a simple API can be inserted anywhere in the service chain
- Client authentication - using WS-Security or HTTP basic authentication
- Pluggable authentication - supports a wide variety of authentication mechanisms, stacking, and custom modules using JAAS
- Access Control - selective authorization for service invocation, data access, and data update using JAAS.
- Highly scalable - architecture designed to integrate with other enterprise services like load balancers, SSL accelerators, and XML firewalls.
- High performance - architecture capable of servicing hundreds or thousands of transactions per second on appropriate hardware
- Data federation - ability to join multiple repositories of identity information through a service oriented interface.
- Platform independence - idBUS runs on all major operating systems with a Java Virtual Machine. idBUS can be deployed on most J2EE compliant application servers.
- Standalone service - Except for an application server and JVM, idBUS requires no additional licenses or software.
- Robust codebase - identicentric uses a test-driven development model, with hundreds of test cases and thousands of individual assertions. Software is load and burn-in tested with tens-of-millions of requests before release to help guarantee system stability
